Proposed Study to Quantify Vitamin E in Lotions Using HPLC

Proposed Study to Quantify Vitamin E in Lotions Using HPLC

Research Summary: Researchers have identified vitamin E as essential to one’s diet and potentially beneficial for skincare. Vitamin E has been primarily reported to increase photoprotective properties and reduce erythema. However, some studies on scar formation and other effects have been inconclusive. More research under randomized controlled settings should be pursued to better understand the role vitamin E plays in skin health.Vitamin E's increasing photoprotective properties have been shown to benefit anti-aging and skin brightening. As it becomes more popular in cosmetics, the amount of vitamin E present in a product may not always be clear. To address this, scientists...

WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OF TOPICAL APPLICATION OF ALOE VERA GEL IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODELS

WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OF TOPICAL APPLICATION OF ALOE VERA GEL IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODELS

Research Summary Aloe vera gel at concentrations of 50% and 96.4% was tested for its wound healing activity through topical application on experimental rats. The wound healing effects of Aloe vera gel were evaluated using the wound excision model, with histopathology employed to study its impact on the healing process. Results showed that Aloe vera gel significantly contributed to wound contraction, wound closure, reduction in the surface area of the wound, tissue regeneration at the wound site, and favorable histopathological characteristics in treated rats.Biochemical studies also revealed that Aloe vera gel produced a significant increase in collagen content, while hexosamine...

α-(-)-Bisa-bolol Reduces Pro-Inflammatory Cytokine Production and Ameliorates Skin Inflammation.

α-(-)-Bisa-bolol Reduces Pro-Inflammatory Cytokine Production and Ameliorates Skin Inflammation.

Research Summary: α-(-)-bisabolol, a natural monocyclic sesquiterpene found in essential oils, has garnered significant interest in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and is currently utilized in various formulations, particularly in cosmetics. This study aimed to evaluate its therapeutic potential against skin inflammation using in-vitro, in-vivo, and in-silico assays.Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6) in macrophage cells, as well as TPA-induced skin inflammation in mice, were significantly inhibited by α-(-)-bisabolol. Furthermore, TPA-induced ear thickness, ear weight, lipid peroxidation, and histopathological damage in ear tissue were also significantly reduced by the topical application of α-(-)-bisabolol in...
